Jesus, concerned, asks his dad what he can do about his imminent over-shadowing

Way back in ’94 a UCLA student in LA told me all about this exciting new technology called the World Wide Web. I wasn’t a particularly geeky kid however, the concept grabbed me immediately and I set about writing a website. I remember evangelising to family & friends (in the UK) about this fantastic new technology – the typical response was underwhelming to say the least, hardly anyone shared my enthusiasm.  We all know what happened next: The Internet took off. 15 years on I’m still financed by the same website I wrote when just 16. I do enjoy saying I told you so….

There is a point to this history lesson. And it is that not since then have I had the same gut-feeling about a technology. My excitement this time: Augmented Reality

Just recently, in a bar in Mayfair, I was with a bunch of guys from a very well known SEO firm. I divulged my enthusiasm about AR. Surprisingly, they didn’t get it:

Bigger than Jesus, you say? Haha“.  They scoffed

It was 1994 all over again.

Great memories.

I look forward to saying “I told you so” to them too :-)
